Advance America - False information and rude, was once satisfied...not now
I am very unsatisfied with the service I received today with Advance America. I was moving from Charlottesville, VA and received a payday advance on May 15, 2012 to help finance said move. Before I received my money, I was certain to ask the associate in Charlottesville if it was possible to repay in Philadelphia, PA, as that was where I moving to in three days. The cashier stated, "Yes, no problem, you can pay it off at any Advance America". I was satisfied with this, because I would not be returning to Virginia afterward. Hence, I went through with the transaction.
However, today (6/2/12) I attempted to pay off the loan in full, and was told that I would
be required to drive to Virginia to repay it. I now live in Philadelphia, with the closest
branch in Delaware. After I drove over an hour to get to this branch, I waited in line for over 30
minutes, was told to drive to Virginia, and was expected to accept this. While the teller was falling asleep in front of me, (his head actually dropped and he re-awoke) I spoke with the manager to assist me in this dilemma, since I had been previously told that I may repay at any location. He retrieved the Charlottesville Branch phone number and gave it to me. I called, and the representative in Charlottesville stated, "No we can't do that because you're in another region." The manager at the Delaware branch suggested I ask if they would cash my check, and send me a refund of the remaining funds, since I was paying before it was due. I did so, and the Charlottesville representative stated she would, but not until Monday. I do understand this delay, since it is the weekend. I asked if she needed my social security number, or any other information for identification purposes. She stated she knew who I was, and could complete the transaction on Monday. She rudely repeated, "No, I know who you are". For clarification, I spelled out my last name for her, as it is not common. I do not understand how she felt she "knows who I am," as I have only been there twice in the past. I will be calling the branch again on Monday to make sure my check is deposited. I felt the need to notify the national office that their employees offer false information, assurances, and perhaps your name to should be "Advance America: Divvied Up By Regions That Will Cost You."
